Title: Laboratory Technician I
Description: The Laboratory Technician I will work to deliver accurate and timely analysis of submitted client samples in the Center for Craft Food and Beverage (CCFB) service testing laboratory. Reporting to the Laboratory Manager, the Laboratory Technician will conduct testing of beer and brewing raw materials including grains and malts following standard operating procedures and approved methods.
In this relatively small lab within a small, liberal arts college, team members must be flexible and willing to undertake a wide range of activities and responsibilities, including some which may not normally be part of this job description.
It is important to us that the individual filling this position has an aptitude to learn new skills, to think “outside the box”, motivate themselves and be willing to work in a dynamic environment where fixed routines may not always be the norm.

- Prepare test materials and conduct analytical testing using standard operating procedures and approved methods.
- Collect and record test results using spreadsheet and database software.
- Conduct routine maintenance and calibration of laboratory instrumentation.
- Receive client samples and maintain inventory logs.
- Perform laboratory housekeeping maintaining the lab in a presentable state at all times.
- As a representative of the College, must comport oneself in a professional manner at all times, both on and off campus.
- Comply with all applicable College, Federal, State, local and associational laws, rules, and regulations.
- Participate in significant campus activities including Welcome Weekend, True Blue Weekend, and Commencement Weekend.
- Ability to perform basic laboratory skills in a safe manner.
- Proficiency in Microsoft software applications including Word and Excel
- Familiarity with basic lab instrumentation and glassware.
- Ability to understand, record and communicate technical data.
- Ability to schedule and coordinate testing and share resources
- Knowledge of laboratory safety procedures.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- The employee must regularly work with and be exposed to hazardous chemicals; wear appropriate personal protective clothing and/or equipment; and work in an environment where there is exposure to grain and flour dust.
