Position Title: Assistant Professor of Accounting
Pay Range: $71,400 - $73,400 per year
Hartwick College is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Assistant Professor of Accounting at its Oneonta, New York campus.
The Assistant Professor of Accounting is a tenure-track position that requires the qualified candidate to teach various undergraduate courses such as: Financial and Managerial Accounting, Taxation, Auditing, Operations, First Year Seminars and other Accounting-related courses as determined by the College's Business Administration and Accounting Department. The teaching load for this position will average 20 semester credit hours (or their equivalent) per academic year, and this position, like all faculty positions, will teach during the College's distinctive 4-week January Term. In addition, the College's Business Administration and Accounting Department embraces entrepreneurship and promotes experiential and community-based learning. The qualified candidate will be expected to embrace and incorporate aspects of entrepreneurship, experiential and community-based learning into his/her/their teaching.
More specifically, the qualified candidate for the Assistant Professor of Accounting position will be responsible to: (1) teach various accounting and accounting-related courses; (2) evaluate and grade students' classwork; (3) initiate, facilitate and moderate classroom discussions; (4) compile, administer and grade examinations; (5) keep abreast of developments in the Accounting field of study by reading current literature and participating in professional conferences; (6) engage in scholarly activity leading to the presentation and publication of research findings with the Accounting field of study; (7) prepare course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments and handouts; (8) plan, evaluate and revise curricula, course content and course materials, and methods of instruction; (9) maintain regularly scheduled office hours to advise and assist students; (10) participate in Department course planning and development; and (11) participate in College services activities, including but not limited to, committee service activities and academic advising.
Finally, the Assistant Professor of Accounting position will also require the qualified candidate to serve as the Site Coordinator and oversee the students participating in the College IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistant Program (VITA).
QUALIFICATIONS
Qualified candidates must possess a minimum of a Master’s degree in Accounting or Finance. In addition, qualified candidates must possess a New York State license to practice as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or satisfy the eligibility requirements needed to apply for a New York State license to practice as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). The qualified applicant must maintain active scholarly or creative activities within the Accounting field of study. The qualified candidate must also manifest a strong understanding of, and commitment to, teaching undergraduates and working closely with students in a small college environment.
